About the band:
Andersens were formed in 2000 by three students from the same high school in Tokyo; Kiyokazu Onozaki, Shinsuke Ouchi and Daisuke Kobayashi. Live, they create an inspired, often improvised, ceremony of sound that blends crazed psychedelia with a wistful pop sensibility. After the band released their debut EP in 2002, singer/flutist Yoshiko Iguchi joined and added a more delicate atmosphere to the many-layered drones evident on their debut album, "Between Static and Fire". After Daisuke Kobayashi left the band in 2004 to pursue a career in agriculture, Andersens began to have a floating line-up, in addition to the original core members, that has known to swell to more than ten people on occasion with a diverse range of instrumentation such as esraji, trombone, saxophone, Indian percussion, synthesizer and lap top. The band featured on the critically acclaimed Japanese underground pop compilation CD "Songs for Nao" in 2004, released on Australian label Chapter Music. In 2005, band leader Kiyokazu Onozaki started Bye Bye Blackbird, to release Andersens works. "Gzi Gzi Gzeo" is the band’s second full-length album, and the first release on the new Scottish-based record label Switchico Records. Andersens regularly play live in their native Japan and have supported artists such as Jens Lekman in Tokyo, which excitedly prompted the man himself to cite their show as being "clearly in my Top 3 shows of all time" on his website. The band hopes to make it to Europe for some live shows in late 2007.
